Queer Therapy
Guiding Hope provides individual and family therapy to teens, adults, and young adults who identify on the LGBTQ+ spectrum. The issues that LGBTQ+ people go through can cause lots of distress in one's life, including coming out, gender and sexual orientation identity formation, discrimination, and internalized homophobia/transphobia, to name a few.
Life is hard, especially for people in the LGBTQ+ community. According to the Anxiety & Depression Association of America, Queer youth are six times more likely to experience depression than non-Queer teens, and the prevalence of mental health issues within the LGBTQ+ community is higher than the general population. This can look like being anxious to be your true self at home, school, or work for fear of being bullied, fired, or even disowned by family. Sometimes the struggle is more subtle in the ways that society favors heteronormative standards.
My goal as a pansexual, polyamorous, kink-positive therapist is to help other people in the Queer community help navigate this world that has been designed and built to oppress Queer people, as well as BIPOC and Latinx people, women, and many other minorities. Just as my business reflects my goal to help guide others' hope, I feel like as a mental health clinician, it is important to help guide the hope of the LGBTQ+ community as a whole and my Queer client to be the amazing sparkling people they are. If you find yourself struggling with LGBTQ+ related issues, please reach out to me so I can help!
